Roddenberry has done so much for us in our world, there should not even be a petition, they should just give him a grand memorial.

The Gene Roddenberry Memorial Highway should be a reality!

I believe that this is a great idea. Star Trek has played an important role in modern day technology and has inspired many people to do what they do . And it gives us an aleternate way of thinking and hoping that one day there will be no poverty or raceism.
Gene really deserves this at least. It would be great.

It should be. I'm not a diehard Trekkie. I enjoy the shows and like ... no pray that this is the future we may have. Instead of wars constantly plaging our world and famine, people getting along the best they can EQUALLY. That's what he was trying to say. At least from what I have seen. Were there this many questions when then the planetarium in El Paso, was renamed for him? Star Trek may be a TV show, but face it, we have adopted some of that technology into our modern world. When I went to El Paso last year for a Star Trek con, I remember the con on the front page of the local newspaper!! So indirectly, Gene brought money into the town he was born into. So those who want to say cruel things about him, hey give back the money you made off of us Trekkies or Partial Trekkies last year. He brought me to El Paso and I'd go again just to be able to drive on Gene Roddenberry Highway.

Gene will be remembered for a long time as a man who gave hope for peace to a great many people. I would be proud to visit El Paso and drive on a highway honoring him!

Gene Roddenbury deserves a lasting memorial. I feel he was one of the defining authorities of the last century. His vision has had a lasting effect throughout the world.

The people from El Paso are totally in their right to NOT choose to rename their highway after Gene Roddenberry. I agree and totally support them.

My older brother and I are happy to hear that at least someone is respecting the genius and the driving force behind something that nearly 40 years of fans have been the passengers to. Maybe going through El Paso one day ... We'll go where no man nor woman has ever dreamed to go before

If El Paso don't want their highway renamed after Gene Roddenberry then that's their business. After all they are the ones that live, work and play there. Don't force it on them and respect their wishes. RL

I believe Gene has influenced so many people on this small planet of ours.He has inspired a world wide tolerance. No where else will you find this kind of racial socialization.I have made friends from every corner of the world of all ethnic background, faith, and skin color.Gene has inluenced everyone with his dream of WHAT MAY BE,Some have become Lawyers,Bankers,Astronauts,Chemists,Biologists,Doctors, and even those who are poverty stricken. With this one mans ideals all of them can have a relationship that they otherwise wouldnt have.

I think it is our Duty as the people of Earth to Honour this man who has done so much to heal the wounds of lifes struggles in us all,by inspiring hope of the future!!!!

Mike Bond (19y.o., from Conroe, TX) |

Gene gave us hope for the future during a time in our history when it looked as if the world would collapse in on itself. Star Trek's philosophy will last through the ages. Life in the 20th and 21st centuries would never have been the same without his influence.

I wish peace and long life for all that read this.

Gene Roddenberry's dream became an Empire in itself. 6 TV Shows, 10 Movies, Hundreds of books, Thousands of Adventures. Too many Internet sites and RPG's to count (I own one of them, my link). That's an example of the effect on the world, only 1 man had.

I belive it should ahead as Gene has bought a unique vision of the future to the whole world. This Highway will be a Road to that future and hopefully to the vision that gene gave us.
From all star trek fans here in the UK I say let the road be renamed.

Kelvin Loh (17y.o., from Kulim, Malaysia) |

I've only watched the reruns of Star Trek Voyager and honestly, I loved the show and also other TV shows such as TOS, TNG, and DS9. Without Gene Roddenberry, there would be no Star Trek. His vision of the future in Star Trek is unique. So, preserve his vision by renaming the highway. I'm looking forward to drive on the about-to-be-renamed "Gene Roddenberry Memorial Highway". Live Long and Prosper.

Nicole Grzeskowiak (23y.o., from Solrød Strand, Denmark) |

I have been a fan of Star Trek for as long as I can remember. Roddenberry's visions of the future are to me, goals for humanity to strive to attain.. a society where bettering oneself and the quality of life for everyone is more important than personal gain. I think that we should honour the man and his vision forever..

Chris Selsinger (17y.o., from El Paso) |

I, like thousands of El Pasoans like Star Trek also but that doesn't mean we should name our highway after Gene Roddenberry. In fact, I would venture to say that the majority of us here are quite perturbed that the man or his family never even looked back at our town and now
they want us to rename it after Roddenberry. That's pretty much self serving if you ask me.
