Subject: Branding El Paso

Dear Larry,

Who will take the lead to provide me the consensus name for 1-10. What is our brand ?

Voting no is half the job; now it’s time to vote yes for El Paso.

As leaders, we need to let our people, our region know what is our brand.

Who will own this process? Who will let me know? I gave you five choices; please pick one.

Su Senador

Thank you Senador. We deleted the item from today's City Council meeting. WE ARE NOT IN SUPPORT. What's the next step to convince the rest of the Legislature/Committee/Members that we do not support this particular issue?

Re: Branding El Paso

Dear Mayor Caballero,

Recently, HB 949, which renames a section of I-10 the "Gene Rodenberry Memorial Highway" passed a House Committee. I applaud the efforts of Representative Pat Haggerty to create a brand for our community. Many in El Paso have come to me with their own ideas on what we should name i-10.

Before we consider this bill in the Senate, I ask that City Council consider all ideas and provide me a consensus choice. In my view, El Paso must carefully brand itself, our region and our community in order to attract jobs, business clusters and national attention. For years, we have struggled with our identity. Perhaps more than any Texas city, El Paso’s choice on this brand will send the clear message of what we think of ourselves, our community and our future.

Creating this brand is too important to be left to one person. Each of us should own the brand that sells El Paso. The very important choice that our community makes to re name our central gateway sends a message from the west coast to east coast, from Austin to DC, so I hope that you and City Council will carefully consider the El Paso Brand.

Here are several ideas that El Pasoans have provided to me as alternatives:

*Gateway to the Americas Expressway;

*Frontier of the Future Freeway;

*Omar Bradley Highway;

*Lincoln/Juarez Freedom Pass;

*Paso al Norte Passage

Please review each of these ideas and provide me with your consensus choice no later than next Tuesday, April 28th. In addition to this request of City Council, I have asked Channel 9, the El Paso Times and KROD Radio to run polls with El Pasoans to give us the choice that makes the most sense.

We must all strive to build a great future for our children, our community and our region by branding El Paso with the right message.

Very truly yours,
